Perfection isms 2
While my intention was to begin with more of a foundational start to the perfectionism conversation, I found myself having to use one of the tips I was going to mention later as I was writing.
Yes, my inclination to thoroughly research all sides of the perfection concept was delaying me from just putting the dang advice out there 😑 My “need” to cover all my bases was preventing me from publishing. I had to ask myself, is it more important that I (somehow) research allll the possible ideas out there on perfectionism, take the time to craft my own thoughts on it all, and THEN allow myself to put it out there, or do I want to actually finish the thing without dedicating my lifetime to it?
🤔
There will always be more learning to do. Again, just for my brain to process…there will always be more to know. Therefore, I determined the most actionable advice on working with perfectionism is this – done is better than perfect. Progress over perfection. (Coincidence that these phrases are the recommended mantras for my personality?)
“But is done REALLY better than perfect…are you sure…?”
Yes. Let me save you the hours of pondering.
Remember, the time you spend on one thing is time you don’t have for another. I’m not saying rush it out the door; take your time, but dear God, press send.
And for all you perfectionists out there that are still worried about it not being perfect and dwelling over a possible future where you look back in horrendous embarrassment over what you created now…know this – you’re allowed to improve. In fact, I highly encourage it. It’s ok that your beliefs will change and evolve, regardless of the pressure from the masses. You do the best that you can with where you’re at right now. And, it’s actually quite rewarding to look back and see how far you’ve come. So let it go. Let it be. Create.
