“We all have two lives. The second begins when we realize we only have one.”

This quote, adapted from Confucius’s original, has become quite significant in my life. Obviously, as I chose this quote, I believe (and hope) we only have one life cycle. Thus, when I heard this wisdom, I loved its sharp insight and adopted it as a kind of foundation for my life, an important reminder to realize over and over.

I suppose it goes along with the “definition of hell” quote, which speculates that hell is getting to the end of your life and meeting the person you could’ve become. Welcome to my greatest fear, and on the flipside, my greatest desire: to become. So of course “We only have one” is my chosen phrase…it both prevents me from succumbing to my fear and moves me towards my desire. Perhaps it will do the same for you.
